Massage Mastery: Answering the Embarrassing Questions

June 3rd, 2014 • Posted by Main Street Massage Therapy, LLC • Permalink

As much as you love a good massage, we're guessing you have a few questions that you're too embarrassed to ask your therapist. Never fear, we're here to answer the four questions you've always wondered about but were too shy to ask.

Should I keep my underwear on?

There isn't a right or wrong answer here; it's up to you. If you feel more comfortable with underwear on, that's fine. If you prefer to go nude, go for it. Do what makes your comfortable. Your therapist will keep your backside covered with a towel.

What if I drool?

While you might be embarrassed by a little drool, it means you are relaxed state and that's a compliment to your therapist. Drooling is actually very common during a massage. You can ask for a tissue too, it's not a problem.

Should I tip?

In most cases, a tip is warranted. A tip of 15-20 percent is appreciated, but the choice is yours. There are some clinical settings where a tip isn't necessary. When in doubt, ask your therapist, or ask at the front desk if you'd rather not ask your therapist directly.

Do I have to talk during a massage?

If you want to talk, go ahead, but don't feel like you have to entertain your therapist. You are there to unwind and work on troubled areas, so if you don't want to engage in conversation, that's okay.
